Welcome!

gone but not forgotten 01

This site is a continued work in progress which is dedicated to all who traveled this road of life before us and made us who we are today. Thank you in advance to all those who have already done much research in compiling information that is or will be posted within.

On the front end, it is reiterated that historical mistakes occur whether in textbooks, death certificates, newspapers,  or grave markers just to name a few. If anyone finds inaccuracies contained within, please bear all this in mind. Applicable notes will be inserted to indicate discrepancies. Case in point, errors in the dates on James Jefferson Wright’s and Mary Ann Gleason-Wright’s monument. Respectful input is welcomed along with supporting information. Scroll down to read more on how to submit articles, photos, etc.

At this point, the story begins with James Wright b. 1799  in [Amherst County?] Virginia (father of James Jefferson Wright b. 1832) who moved to Ross County Ohio. Many of his descendants are working collaboratively to verify a Shawnee Indian connection and to reach farther back to discover not only his parents, but additional familial information as well.

Currently, the Photos of Unknown Family Members’ page is dedicated to pictures of family members which need identification. Other pages will be added for branches of James’ family tree which will contain photos and other documents as well as any other pertinent stories, articles, etc. that the family would like to share.

The main goal in developing this site is to bring as much information together as possible in one place thereby making it convenient to locate and enjoy.

Our family’s history is like the unfurled fragrant petals of a beautiful rose which momentarily enriches our lives; then, withers. . .falling away and is forever gone.  If we fail to take the opportunity now to preserve our familial history, important information and stories will be eternally lost.

  3. Hello… Great site!!! I’m Mark Joseph Stubbs,
son of Rev. Joseph Lewis Stubbs,
son of Gladys Marie {Bost} Stubbs,
daughter of Mary Harriet {Hammond} Bost,
daughter of Sarah Ellen {Wright} Hammond,
daughter of James Wright of 1799.

I was born in Chillicothe Oh. I and “many” of my family have walked the very same hills where James Wright, Harriet Elizabeth “Schneider” Wright, Sarah Ellen “Wright” Hammond and Joseph Hammond lived. I’ve drank from the same spring they drank from, that still flows. I have seen and heard the stories relayed by Dianne “Stubbs” Metz (my first cousin) on your site. Sarah Wright is still dearly thought of by the Stubbs family.
In the late 60’s we moved to Oklahoma. My father would stop in Kansas City area and visit his relatives, which I presume to be the Wright family. I only remember the man having (what seemed) a wall of ham radios which he talked to people all over the world. He and my father knew the same relatives from Ohio. Would someone know who that would be?
Daddy found, I believed, what he called his fifth cousin in Watonga, Ok. , Charles James Wright.
Charlie was married to Lucy Leola”Sallsberry”Wright. I couldn’t find them in your site, but it may not be reliant or I probably missed them. I have some memories of Charlie talking about the homestead settled in the Land run of 1892, but I don’t remember which of his family was there. As the adults talked I would fall asleep or play on the old tracker in the shed.
Charlie was the son of Silas Thomas Wright. Silas was the son of William Allen and Mary Elizabeth “Power” Wright.
I’ve talked to much, but wanted to say hi!!!

    Effectually,
    Stubby
